The davis collection

Developer Brixmor Properties reached out to me on a new project in Davis, California. A central shopping center incredibly important to the people of davis, the project was going to be a new landmark for the city. From there on we discussed placement of several murals around the campus.

Mural 1, on the exterior of Nordstrom Rack and arguably the most visible of the murals in the collection due to its height, focuses on the themes of native & indigenous plant life in davis.

Mural 2 placed on the exterior of mendocino farms and highly visible to passerbys and visitors alike, adopts the theme of everyday life in davis. Depicting the quaint park and cottage life of davis residents alongside the agricultural backdrop of the “aggie” centric city.

Mural 3 depicts a cartoon-like take on “An afternoon on the Grand jate,” with a davis vibe. Figures of Davis’ past and present, some specific references to the art community that was part of the UC Davis art program at its height.

Mural 4 is placed just adjacent to the calicraft Brewery in a highly attractive zone of the davis collection where people gather for leisure.

Mural 5 was a late addition to the project, outside of Petsmart but keeping in theme and color story of the other murals. It is to act as a simple call to the city in a space that is otherwise dull.
